Compassionate Use and Exceptional Risk

PCI Criteria and Definitions for Identifying Compassionate Use and Exceptional Risk Cases (pdf) Updated March 2010

The Mass-DAC Criteria for Identifying Compassionate Use and Exceptional Risk file provides the the risk factors and definitions for variables used to determine if an individual case should be designated as compassionate use. In addition, the Exceptional Risk designation has additional protocols that need to be followed to qualify a patient procedure as an Exceptional Risk case. We have also provided several cases studies that provide examples of Exceptional Use cases.

Dr. Ather Anis presented at the AHA Scientific Sessions 2009 conference recently held in Orlando, Florida. His research found that primary PCI for STEMI at centers without surgery on-site is associated with similar rate of death and MI but increased repeat revascularizations at one year. Dr. Anis used Mass-DAC data for this research. To read more about Dr. Anis's presentation and findings, click here.
