Phys. Oversight Committee

committeeThere are two Mass-DAC physician  oversight committees required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) that  review all physician outliers for each study cohort.  In fiscal years when a  physician is categorized as a statistical outlier, these committees review the clinical information to determine if there are systemic reasons why the physician performed not as expected.  The committee members work closely with the DPH and the identified hospital staff to address any issues.

The members of these committees are charged with the task of reviewing blinded summary data for all outlier physicians in the review year. Such data include risk-standardized mortality rates (SMIR), physician volume, complication rates, unblinded admission and discharge notes for all fatalities, and other  recommended process measures.

Reasons why we need you

  • We need your clinical knowledge, and
  • Your experience as a physician

both critical to examining the clinical issues to validate or reject the statistical signal.
