Dr. Ather Anis presented at the AHA Scientific Sessions 2009 conference recently held in Orlando, Florida. His research found that primary PCI for STEMI at centers without surgery on-site is associated with similar rate of death and MI but increased repeat revascularizations at one year. Implantable defibrillators, which protect against deadly heart rhythms, may offer little benefit for older people who have other serious health problems at the time of heart failure, U.S. researchers said.
