Phys. Oversight Committee

Phys. Oversight Committee

There are two Mass-DAC physician  oversight committees required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) that  review all physician outliers for each study cohort.  In fiscal years when a  physician is categorized as a statistical outlier, these committees review the clinical information to determine if there are systemic reasons why the physician performed not as expected.  The committee members work closely with the DPH and the identified hospital staff to address any issues. The members of these committees are charged with the task of reviewing blinded summary data for all outlier physicians in the review year. Such data include risk-standardized mortality rates (SMIR), physician volume, complication rates, unblinded admission and discharge notes for all fatalities, and other  recommended process measures. Reasons why we need you We need your clinical knowledge, and Your experience as a physician both critical to examining the clinical issues to validate or reject the statistical signal. Cardiac surgery committee members: The fiscal year 2011 committee members will be listed soon.   PCI committee members: The fiscal year 2011 committee members will be listed soon.

Data Manager Orientation and Training

Data Manager Orientation and Training

The data manager orientation and training section introduces new data mangers to Mass-DAC and provides a reference to important policies and procedures required by the Department of Public Health and Mass-DAC. It highlights the critical procedures necessary to complete quarterly Mass-DAC data submission harvests and includes copies of reports forms used throughout the year. All hospitals performing cardiac surgery and percutaneous coronary interventions in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts must submit data to the Massachusetts Data Analysis Center (Mass-DAC).

PGP Encryption

PGP Encryption

Why PGP is needed? In order to meet all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, including HIPAA Security Rule requirements, for securing high risk confidential information (HRCI), Mass-DAC requires all files containing HCRI (e.g., data submission files, data quality reports) to be encrypted and signed using PGP public key cryptography.  The encrypted files must then be uploaded to the Mass-DAC secure document repository through the Harvard Medical School (HMS) virtual private network (VPN).
